My Story
Hello and welcome to my portfolio! My name is Eliana Marie Rothwell and I was born in Tijuana, Mexico then adopted as a newborn. I grew up in Durango, Colorado playing in the mountains, working on the family farm, and enjoying music. Being surrounded by mountains I grew up with a love for skiing and exploring the outdoors. I was raised as a farm girl, with daily chores including: collecting eggs, mucking the barn, cleaning the parlor, feeding the chickens and goats. The experiences have had growing up on a farm have helped make me who I am and taught me many great life lessons. I have learned to be trustworthy, responsible, independent, and persevering. Another important aspect of my life has been music.I have been playing the piano for eight years and have played everything from classical to funk, and close to everything in between. Playing the piano has been a big part of my life. I am involved with Stillwater and being able to preform with young musicians on a stage is not only an amazing opportunity but also something I love to do. I love traveling around the world, and experiencing different cultures and cuisine. Having native roots in Mexico has made me eager to learn Spanish and become fluent in the language. I hope to have the opportunity to travel around Mexico and experience my culture.

Why I chose to transfer to Animas High School?
I transferred to Animas High School because I wanted to be in an environment where students are enthusiastic about learning. I went to Durango High School for my ninth grade year, but I found out that it wasn't the right school for me. I want to be in a class filled with engaged students that are trying their hardest and doing their best. I'm looking forward to working with teachers who are accessible and excited about teaching. When I visited Animas after spending just one class period I knew this was the place for me. All the students were engaged and participating in the discussion and the teacher was challengeing the students in creative ways. I am so excited to be attending Animas High School for my tenth grade year!
