Gun control is a big topic that has been current in the news for quiet some time, yet we haven't come to any agreements or solutions about gun control. During the democratic debate last night, Hillary Clinton brought up the fact that about 90 people day a day due to gun violence. Although this is true she didn't mention that only a third of that are homicides and majority of them are suicides. The way she phrased this during her debate was in a manner that implied that the cause of the gun violence is caused by a criminal action. I agree that we should focus on homicides, I believe we should be putting the main focus into the majority of these deaths. We should start by looking into the main age group where this occurs and focus on that along with also focusing on homicides.
I also find it interesting how Clinton choose to make it sound like she was refer to this gun violence coming from criminals. Instead of going in-depth and saying how majority of these gun related deaths occur from suicides. Personally I would have liked her speak more about gun laws and how she plans on making the daily number of gun related deaths go down, but for what she spoke about I would have liked her to state more of the fact instead of being more secretive about it. The Big Sort is where Americans will be divided into certain sections such as neighborhoods, based upon their political views. So this means that in towns and cities neighborhoods will be divided based by the residents political views. I personally believe that this is not a great way of separating the community, because it is un-equalizing residents. We have made a lot of progress over the years with making sure everyone is equal but if The Big Sort followed through, this would just be taking steps back with the progress of equality. I would say that if people want to create their own gatherings, outside of the segregated living, for their political views that is okay. But setting people apart from one another just based on a political view is taking steps backwards on making everyone equal.I found this article very interesting and frankly I think that the government has over stepped their boundary. I find it outraging that a legal guardian of a child can be charged with multiple years in prison for letting their child simply play in a near by park or by playing in the neighborhood cul-de-sac. I believe that if the legal guardian has a clear view of their child; whether they are playing in the street or in the front yard, then the government has no business sticking their nose into these legal guardians parents roles. This is teaching our society to constantly be afraid of "What If..'s". They are making sure that residents of America know who has the most control in this society. I believe that living off a fear bases is not a good way to be teaching our society to live off of. I would agree that it is great to have everyone be aware and cautious about the risks of not having your child not be in clear sight of you. But I would challenge the idea of what sort of message this is sending to younger generations to always be afraid of the unknown. Is this the kind of message we want to pass on to future generations? I would also argue with the way the government is interrupting parents teaching styles. I believe that every parent has the right to raise their child the way the want to, as long as the child and others are not being physically and emotionally abused. If the child is being harmed in this way, I would then agree that the government has the right to step in and interrupt the teaching methods of parents. With this being said I would say that the government is being ridiculous and has over-stepped their boundaries.
When looking at FackCheck.org I noticed that the most shocking one to me was when Trump was off by 63 billion dollars on how much money it would cost to deport 11 million illegal immigrants. Not only does this mean that the people that watched last nights debate were getting the wrong information and are being mis-lead and are now uneducated about this topic. This means that we need to be checking to see how accurate the facts are during these debates and to not believe everyone that tells us facts. I find it interesting how when one of the candidates are wrong about the facts there are no punishments, none the less they don't get called out until after the debate. I find it interesting that the candidates running to be our leaders and our president are telling us wrong and exaggerated information. I wonder what this means when one of them gets elected. Can we truly trust the winner if currently they are telling us lies? How will we know when the president is telling the truth vs. lies and exaggeration? I wonder what this really is telling us about each persons personality, do they think it is okay to tell people misleading information?I think that an important main issue that is facing our nation today would be the views on illegal immigrants focusing on Mexican immigrants. I think that this is an important topic our nation is facing because there are a lot of different ethnic background humans in America. The candidate I will be looking at tonight in the debate is Donald Trump because leading up to the debate he has been very vocal about his opinion on illegal immigrants. He believes we should build a wall between America and Mexico to keep all illegal immigrants out, and start deporting all illegal immigrants immediately. I do not necessarily agree with this statement of his. I would say that if illegal immigrants are cause more harm than good then they have the right to be sentenced with deportation. I do not agree with the building of a wall to separate the two countries, people are bound to find away around it no matter what. I can understand why people might think that all illegal immigrants are drug lords that need to be deported, but those people that make that assumptions are just uneducated and closed minded. In order to get me on board with this concept I would need to be able to see legitimate statistics proving that illegal immigrants are doing more harm than good. I would also need to have a couple questions answered such as; Approximately much money would it cost to build a wall? Approximately how much money would cost to find and deport all illegal immigrants? With the amount of money it cost to complete those two things, what could we have put our money into else wise? |
