How I have grown as a learner.
I have grown as a learner by being able to take my education outside of the class room and outside of the community but by taking it to the countries I am fortunate to travel to. I have been lucky to have the opportunity this year to travel to Guatemala and be able to share by background of English with the people I was working with to help build a house. A long with talking to children in the local village I went to greatly helped my Spanish with both speaking and listening. I not only gained a great experience but I have grown from just spending a week in a foreign setting. I also have grown with a maturity level for furthering my education outside of a class room. This summer I decided instead of just sitting at home watching movies I wanted to go be an active representative for our country. I will be spending a month traveling in Thailand embarking on teaching English class, working in orphanages, elephant refuge camps, and more. During my month travels I will be living out of a 40 mL backpack, along with have a focus on development issues, tourism impacts, in-depth look into the role of religion in Thai life, and rural culture studies. I have grown these year with learning skills such as self-advocacy, multitasking and helping others. I am excited for what my education this summer will hold and putting the skills I've learned thus far to test.
