Forensic Project, Crime Scene #2
Reflection
During the Forensic Project I got enriched on the steps that it takes to solving a crime. We got a packet that contains background information about how the skeleton remains were found and where they were located. After taking photos on the main parts of the skeletal remains, we began to search around the trash bag which the skeletal remains were found. After finding a beetle insect in the bag we then filled out a log containing the major information we found on the skeleton. For example we found the forehead to the skull was banged and pieces were missing also there was an exit hole, there for we know cause of death was a bullet. After placing the beetle in a small container of rubbing alcohol we found that this beetle has been eating the remains for the past three years to a year. We found on the skeletal remains that there was blood under the nails of the victim. We also could narrow down our victims by looking at the pelvis to determine male or female along with the height of the femur and tibia we found that the suspect was a male between 5 4" and 5 6". The hair left on the remains also helped us run DNA test to ensure that this was the right victim. We ran the blood found under the nails of the victim with the mother of the victims and the top three suspects. If they matched then we would have a killer and we would be 100% that this was the right victim. After getting the results there was no match causing us to find no killer. We also ran the bag through a fingerprint process and came to no conclusion. This brings us back to square one and having to find other clues that could lead us to our killer.
During this project I enjoyed learning how to proper analyze skeletal remains along with figuring out the DNA typing. I enjoyed this project because I've always been interested in learning about how to analyze remains but now I have a clear understanding. I enjoyed taking the samples from under the nails and going through a process to find the DNA and who it belongs to. I was really engaged with this project and every step we took to try and solve the murder. Although I will not go into a forensic field I am happy I got the opportunity to solve a mock murder case.

Pig Dissection
For the pig dissection we looked at the main systems along with studying the heart and brain. After several weeks of dissection and filling out packet work, our final exam was having our partner (Andrew Allsop) film each student go through the systems along with all the main body placements. I personally enjoyed this project because I was able to really touch and engage with what I was learning and not just staring at s packet trying to figure out what each part of the pig was. My favorite part of this project was being able to look in the skull of the pig and see and feel what a brain actually looks like. Although the smell though out the room was not pleasing, this is a project I will not forget and have pleasant memories of.
Monkey Meal Plan
During this project I helped create a meal for Chimps and Monkeys to enjoy that still fallows there dietary restrictions. I also created an object for the chimps and monkeys to play with. This project was an amazing opportunity to incorporate cooking and science! This was one of my favorite assignments all year because I got to enjoy cooking, which I have a big passion for, and education!
Community Connection
For my community connections project I help Colleen Dunning set up and raise money for Pennies For Patients project. I hung up posters around the school and assigned each grade level a certain box that they were encharge of adding money to their box. The grade level that raised the most amount of money got a root-beer float party to congratulate them on raising money for cancer patients. This was a great way to help people along with help representing our school in a positive way! I enjoyed this project and look forward to seeing how the fallowing year will help support Pennies for Patients.
